Easy Jamaican Jerk Chicken Tacos

My boyfriend and I just got back from a week long cruise through the Caribbean. It was originally supposed to be an Eastern Caribbean cruise, with stops to St. Thomas and St. Maarten. But Hurricane Matthew decided to crash the party and so the ship made a detour westward– making our new ports of call Labadee, Haiti and Falmouth, Jamaica.

This was our second time visiting these two ports. And when you drop us in Jamaica, you can expect us to go on a wild goose hunt for the best jerk chicken in town.falmouth jamaicaLast time we were in Falmouth, we asked the locals where the best jerk chicken was, and we were directed to Pepper’s. Once you exit the gates of the port into the town of Falmouth, you will find a less-touristy type of experience.

Pepper’s was a couple blocks into town and probably a little further than we would’ve gone on our own had we not followed a local there. But let me tell you, this restaurant/outdoor bar is worth the trek. We were rewarded with the most tender jerk chicken, packed with just the right amount of heat and flavor. If you ever find yourself in Falmouth, I definitely recommend that you explore a little off the beaten path and pay Pepper’s a visit.

I love anything taco. So because today is National Taco Day and considering I was just in Jamaica, I figured I’d share these Jamaican-inspired tacos with you.

With only 7 ingredients, you’ll have this meal ready to serve in 25 minutes flat. Packed with flavor and spice and conveniently wrapped in a tortilla, these tacos are sure to be a hit. Easy Jamaican Jerk Chicken Tacos

Prep Time: 10 mins. | Cook Time: 15 mins. | Total Time: 25 mins. | Serves 2-4 people


3 teaspoons Jamaican Jerk seasoning (store bought)

3 large chicken breasts, pounded and tenderized to 1/2 inch thickness

2 cups shredded lettuce or slaw

2 tablespoons fresh cilantro leaves, chopped

8 taco size soft tortillas (I used flour tortillas)

lime wedges


1/2 cup of mayo (I replaced this with a 1/2 cup of low fat greek yogurt instead)

2 teaspoons of Jamaican Jerk seasoning


Season chicken breasts with jerk seasoning and rub into both sides.

Cook over medium heat on stove top for 4-5 minutes on each side until cooked through. Then, slice chicken into strips.

Whisk together the greek yogurt and 2 teaspoons of jerk seasoning. Add a little more for a spicier taste.

Lightly heat tortilla shells over stove top. (optional)

Assemble tacos. Place lettuce/slaw on each tortilla. Place strips of chicken on top and then drizzle the sauce over it. Sprinkle the chopped cilantro on top and then serve with lime wedges.
